We sat down with the talented student collection designers behind this year’s Clary Runway event! Take a look behind the designs!
“It was always a passion. Clothing has this transformative power for me when I wear something that I feel confident and beautiful in. That is what sparked my interest in being a fashion stylist. I want to make people feel unstoppable.”
“Growing up in Southern California, surf, skate, and punk culture was ingrained in me. My father was an incredible skater and surfer and my mother’s style was influenced by the post-punk movement and goth subculture of the 80s, so that is what continues to inspire me.”
“There has been an awakening of styles from the past that are now being reimagined, so I wanted to strike a balance between the playfulness of an era like the 90s while still having each outfit look modern.”
“My advice for anyone who wants to study fashion design is to stay consistent and practice patience with yourself during the learning process.”
“In 5 years, I see myself working as a stylist for a fashion house and moving towards starting a business of my own.”
“I choose a career in fashion because, I’m a nerd who loves playing games that, has beautiful clothings, but in everything that I have played all I ever did was dress my character/avatar.”
“I am Hmong boy that loves his feminine side more than regular guys and people can say I’m weird but it’s okay I rather be weird than be basic because not everyone wanna be the standard guy or girl image.”
“My inspiration was to feel sexy and free with whatever you wear, because the only one that stopping you is yourself.”
“Is to never give up when others say things to you that brings you down and when you feel like all your hopes and dreams feels too much or too big. Just remember to start small because small goes a long way and it’s more impactful.”
“In five years I see myself as a small online store owner and competing in fashion runways.”
“When choosing fashion as my career choice, I knew it was because I enjoy making others feel beautiful in their own skin. I have been a girly girl at heart since I was little. Fashion, inspires me to continue expressing who I truly am.”
“Hello, my name is Haley Scott. My dream is to one day be a custom designer/ brand owner. I graduated from Clary Sage college in 2020, with the degree in fashion design. I strive to be a hard-working independent woman. Currently I am a Manger in retail, doing alterations and traveling to inspire others. My aspiration is to grow as a person, grow in the community, and climb my ladder to reach my goals & my dreams.”
“My inspiration for this collection Was to make young women feel beautiful, while still being modest. Mix between daytime to nighttime looks, easy accessibility and transitions to wear with other things.”
“If it truly is your passion, then it won’t ever feel like a job. Always, focus on your dreams and keep yourself motivated. Remember to not only stay confident, but remain humble. Surround yourself with people who will uplift you, and push you to become a better version of you. Hard work, will pay off in the end.”
“In five years, I see myself being a boss woman. Living life focused. Living in New York City, custom designs or owning my own brand. I have a great work ethic and I am determined to have my dreams come true.”
“What made me choose a career in fashion is that I love creating and making things, and seeing my creations come to life is the best feeling ever. Another reason I chose this career path is that I wanted to make things for people from any shape and size and seeing that vision come to life is such an amazing feeling.”
“Little bit about myself is that I have a huge passion for art. Art of any kind, like drawing, painting, and even making art. Art has been a big part of my life for so long, it’s such a passion of mine.”
“The inspiration for this collection I had made is that I am quite a fan of superheroes and villains. For this particular collection the inspiration was one of my favorite villains, or a hero in some cases, Marvel’s Norse mythology god Loki. He is my all time favorite character in marvel history.”
“My advice for someone who wants to study fashion design, that is, go for it. If you really want to do it go for it because in the future you might regret not doing it. Another piece of advice is that if you want to study fashion design, take advantage of every opportunity that is given to you and make every opportunity count while you have it.”
“Where do I see myself in 5 years? I see myself having my own business or even being a stylist for some celebrities like I have always wanted. I also see myself working on an animated series that I’ve been wanting to, I even have the stories for it and everything. I see myself with so many opportunities in 5 years and I’m excited for them.”
