Home Remedies for a Sinus Infection

Ever wonder why there are more sinus infections in the winter than any other time of the year? And if you happen to get a sinus infection, do you want to learn any homeopathic remedies that can help?  If so, read on.

With a little research I’ve learned that the cause for sinus infections varies.

The following are primary reasons for the cause:

  1. Being creatures of comfort when winter arrives we tend to stay inside more where it’s warm, along with many others from family members at home or with crowds in the mall. We’re around people and places where we are more likely to be exposed to germs and viruses.
  2. If our immune system is compromised due to another winter time illness, like a cold or the flu, our resistance to viruses is weakened, and we are more susceptible to a sinus infection.
  3. Central heat has made our homes and work places another cause due to the dryness of the air we breathe. Our mucus membranes become dry and easy places of entry for viruses.

So what to do?

Here are some important suggestions for you:

Since you can’t stay away from family members or from doing some type of shopping, nor can you stop from handling anything that others have touched like counter tops, door knobs, money, be sure to wash your hands.

Another tip is to use a humidifier at home. It will prevent the air from drying out your mucus membranes.

If you do get a sinus infection, be sure to drink lots of water. By the way, alcohol, coffee and soft drinks will not help and will be more of a hindrance to getting well quickly.

Here are some simple home remedies you might want to give a try if you get a sinus infection:

Put 3 to 5 drops of Peppermint Essential Oil or Eucalyptus Essential Oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, cup them, bring them close to your nose, and inhale several deep, full breaths.

Use a Neti Pot (easily purchased at a pharmacy or discount store) to flush nasal passages. This can be done as a preventative on a regular basis.

Carrot, spinach, beet and cucumber juice are effective in enriching the body with vitamins A and C which help fight infection and nasal congestion.
