How to Look Younger by Christmas

With Thanksgiving behind us and Christmas just around the corner, we are in the heart of the holiday season. During this busy time of the year, we sometimes forget to do something for ourselves. This behavior, coupled with the cold weather outside and the artificial heat inside, can to really take a toll on our skin.

Here are some simple tips to keep you feeling your best and looking great on Christmas morning:

  1. Hydration. With all the array of beverages available during this time of year, remember that water is still the most important drink of the day. Your skin is an organ, to function properly it needs an adequate amount of water. The lack of water will not only make your skin feel dry and tight but it could very well promote wrinkles. To calculate the ounces of water your body needs each day, divide your body weight by two. Special note: If you plan to enjoy a cocktail, chase it with some extra water. Hey, a twist of lime with water on the rocks and no one will know.
  1. Sleep. Lack of sleep often triggers an inflammatory response in the body. Inflammation is counterintuitive to good skin health in so many ways. Lack of sleep can cause a breakdown in collagen and loss of hyaluronic acid production (both will lead to wrinkles.) Inflammation can also increase acne breakouts, and if you suffer with eczema or psoriasis, sleep deprivation can lead to a “flare up.” On the other hand, a good night’s sleep – including REM sleep – will allow the body to reset itself. The result is great, glowing skin in the morning.
  1. Get a facial. Make time for yourself during this busy holiday season. This is not a luxury, it is a must. During your visit, a great esthetician will perform a consultation including a skin analysis and share the information with you. At Clary Sage College, you will be given the opportunity to have the esthetician customize the tray to your skin type and needs. During the actual facial, the esthetician will be providing a deep cleanse, an exfoliation, a facial massage and much more.  A facial is a great way to “just push pause” in your busy holiday schedule. The skin care specialist will also make product recommendations and be sharing instructions about how to use the products at home.

Happy Holidays from the Esthetics Department at Clary Sage College.
