NEW YORK FASHION WEEK

By: Julie Shafer

Fashion Design Student

New York fashion week recently wrapped up, and all the major designers showcased their fall/winter 2012-2013 collections.  A popular trend across several collections, the 1940s silhouette, is back with an updated feel. Its slender lines and structured suits are in sharp contrast with the feminine dresses made modern on this season’s runway. Jackets and coats are influenced by masculine styles and shoulder pads are becoming bulkier and exaggerated to create a more solid look. These broad-shouldered tops and jackets make taking on the weight of the world look stunning. The hot colors of this cold season range from the more subdued coffee brown, titanium grey, honey gold, and smokey rose to bold colors such as tangerine, royal blue, and bright chartreuse. A look topped off with a fem-fedora and fitted trench with a wide lapel will make you look like you just stepped off the runway.
