To be honest, I’m not the best at skincare. I want to be, and I go through spouts of trying to be, but I never make myself stick to any routine or regimen, and as you’d expect, my skin suffers.
As summer quickly approaches my need for some sort of summer skincare is there. Since I work for a school with programs specializing in skincare, I sent a quick message to our Esthetics and Makeup Artistry teams for their summer skincare tips.
I was expecting a long response with techniques that only they would know, including secret ways to rid my face of redness and blemishes. Well, that’s not what I got. I got the truth. The truth that we all know:
- Wash Your Face.
- USE SUNSCREEN
So simple, yet so difficult for us to remember.
Washing your face. What a mystical idea. (Please read in an incredibly sarcastic tone.)
Washing your face rids your skin of any dirt and bacteria that likes to make a home in your pores. They suggested washing your face twice daily with the Clary Organic Shea Butter and Apple cleanser to lift dirt away without stripping your skin of needed moisture. After your skin is clean and refreshed, apply a facial serum to fight free radicals that cause premature aging. Up next is their other summer must have, sunscreen.
The sun, although beautiful, can be very damaging to your skin. Protect yourself from fine lines, wrinkles and age spots by applying a water-based 30SPF sunscreen with a broad spectrum. A broad spectrum is important, because it fights both the UVA and UVB rays. To ensure your skin is continually protected from the sun, you can use a mineral powder with SPF to set you makeup.
And that’s it. Think you can manage? I can. I’m taking a vow today to wash my face twice daily and to not leave my apartment without an SPF. Are you taking the vow with me?
